Engraving of Edgar Allan Poe by Frederick Warne & Co.
In his essay regarding Poetic Principles, he says something to the effect of:
“Beauty and Death Lie Side by Side”
This can be associated with necrophilia, although most of Poe’s biographers deny that he had any necrophile tendencies.
Poe is also the author of the poems, Ulalume (my favourite) and The Raven. Both poems are of an exceptionally dark nature and have themes of bereavement, combined with linguistic beauty throughout their verses.
