#Russian novelist, short story writer, essayist, journalist and philosopher..
Author of Crime and Punishment, his best-known work in my opinion. I regard this novel as being a #blackcomedy, to a certain extent. Raskolnikov, its main protagonist, murders two women, solely to find out whether he dares to do so!
He is summoned to a police station, and is greatly relieved by the fact that this is not because of the murders, but due to a trivial offence only.
He shouts the obscure words:
“Don’t you dare smoke a cigarette in front of me. I am a student!”
One of the policemen replies:
“Kindly don’t shout in here. You are on Government property.”
Dostoevsky is also the author of The Idiot and The Brothers Karamazov, both of which are intense, fatalistic and intellectually challenging in places.
Regrettably, I have not got time to discuss the contents of these novels.
